3 Ways You Can Get Fit With Friends

There are plenty of reasons why so many of us struggle to get fit. Struggling to find the motivation is one standard issue, while not feeling confident enough to go to the gym is another. But frequently, a large proportion of us are reluctant to spend time exercise because we find it dull and overly solitary. Of course, many people enjoy the individual aspect of exercise, as it gives them a chance to spend some time alone and focusing on themselves. This, however, isn’t for everyone, and if your motivation is low, to begin with, embarking on a solitary workout plan maybe isn’t always the best idea. Plus, exercising with another person holds you to account – you can’t back out of that Sunday morning spin class if your friend is relying on you to give them a lift, after all! If social exercise sounds like your thing, here are a few different ways in which you can improve your fitness AND spend time with friends.

Going walking

Plenty of people do go running together. But if gasping between conversations during a 10k doesn’t sound like your idea of fun, why not go for a more low-intensity option instead? Walking might not seem like a particularly strenuous activity, but it can burn a surprising amount of calories. Plus, anything that gets you out in the great outdoors is good for your health! Get well equipped by reading a womens walking shoe review and find a local route near you. If you’re lucky enough to live near some open countryside, try and pick a stroll that involves a few ascents and descents, to get your legs working. If you’re catching up with an old friend for the whole route, you won’t even notice how far you’ve walked!

Attending gym classes

Group exercise has shot up in popularity in recent years, with innovative new classes like Zumba and Tabata being more booked up than ever. There is something about exercising as part of a large group that can do wonders for your motivation – particularly since in a typical gym class you get people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. Even if you don’t go with another person, you will soon make friends with the attendees if you regularly go (which gives you another reason to turn up too!).

If the gym isn’t your thing, but you and your friends still want to get fit, why not invite a couple of them over for a workout DVD session? You’ll need a fair amount of space for this, so if your home is small, this regrettably may not be an option for you. But if you do have the room, you will be able to find plenty of different guided workouts on YouTube for you and your friends to follow together. Doing these in your home is a chance to have a bit of a laugh and forget about your inhibitions, as you’ll be with people you trust and let’s face it; some DVD workouts can be incredibly cheesy! But hey, if you’re getting fit as a result, it can only be a good thing.
