7 Summer Activities to Keep You Fit

Summer is the best season for being outdoors. Not only are there lots of activities to get involved in, it’s an excuse to soak up some warm vitamin D and spend quality time with family and friends. There’s never been a better time to think about your fitness. Along with exceptional seasonal fruit and veg for your nutrition, Summer is also the season to get fit easily. That’s because you can take part in events that you’re doing for fun, without even noticing that you’re getting fitter as you do them. Here are some ways to do that.

water sports

Water Sports

They’re fun and they keep you cool on the hottest of days! Water sports can be extremely fun, but you may notice a few aches and pains the next day. Don’t worry, that’s a good thing. Whatever water sport you choose to take part in, you can be sure some of your muscles will be exercised. Sports like kayaking and canoeing will build strength in your arms and back, outdoor swimming is an all-round exercise and water skiing will increase strength in your legs and balance and coordination. It’s a fun day out for all the family and you’ll barely notice that you’re exercising too.

Walking

This one is ideal if you have a dog in the family. A long walk doesn’t have to be a chore. Find a trail somewhere with lots of interesting stops. It may have a lake for your dog to take a swim, it may have a picnic area where the whole family can stop for a bite, or it may have a pub at the end of the walk where you can indulge in a well-earned glass of wine. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, why not go on a hike? Just be wary of doing this on a hot day. Take plenty of water with you, wherever you go.

running

Running

The light Summer nights are ideal for running. If you’re only able to exercise when you’ve finished work, and by the time you get home and get ready, the day has passed you by, don’t fret. Get your running shoes on and go for a jog around the block. Once you’ve built up your stamina you can go further, and faster. There’s a type of freedom in running that’s only greater during the Summer months. Make the most of the long nights!

Home Videos

If exercising outdoors isn’t your thing, there are plenty of routines you can get into in the comfort of your own home. Whether you buy a fitness DVD or try some online workout routines, it’s great way to get a taste of certain kinds of sports. You can read a review here – http://www.piyoreviews.com/. If you’re going to try something at home, Yoga or Pilates is a great place to start.

Enter Events

There are usually hundreds of local events throughout the Summer, wherever you live. Most of them will be for charity, so it’s worth contacting your local charity organizers to find out what’s on. Families can take part in fun days where there are often assault courses for adults and older children. Or why not consider getting involved in a color run? It’s usually a 5k run and runners are sprayed with different colors as they reach different distances. It’s great fun and perfect for a workout.

Stretching

Along with light nights comes light mornings. If you like to make the most of the light Summer mornings, why not secure yourself a spot in the garden for some morning stretches. You can find some ideas here. Stretching isn’t just about staying fit. It can ensure correct blood flow around the body, stimulate your mind ready for the working day and relieve stress. It’s not an intensive workout but you’ll still feel great after doing it.

paint ballers

Paintballing

This is ideal for a special event. Whether it’s a hen do, stag party or you’re getting your colleagues together for a team building session, it’s always fun. You may feel it the next day, but paintballing will certainly work your arms and legs. Firstly, you’ll have no choice but to run around to protect yourself and find your targets. Secondly, you’ll have to aim and shoot over and over again, which means you’ll be lifting and lowering your arms throughout the game. If you want another good arm workout you can do as a team, try clay pigeon shooting.

There are many choices when it comes to staying fit over the Summer. Be creative and have fun!
