7 Diseases that are Being Treated with Medical Marijuana

diseases being treated by marijuana

Medical marijuana has recently garnered the attention of scientists and physicians around the world for its potential to treat several chronic diseases and health conditions. Here are seven of the most common conditions for which medical marijuana is increasingly being recommended by end-users who could not find relief from conventional medication.

Seizures

Medical cannabis in controlled doses is being used to treat epilepsy and seizures in children. The chemical compound that has been found particularly beneficial in curbing seizures is called cannabidiol or CBD. Today CBD is available in several forms and is hailed for its healing properties minus the high associated with cannabis use.

Respiratory Disorders

While cannabis abuse could give you lung cancer, medicinally prepared cannabis has been used for decades as an alternative therapy for treating chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma. Studies have shown that marijuana relieves asthma symptoms by dilating the airways and helping a person breathe better.

Alzheimer’s

Symptoms of Alzheimer’s and other brain disorders can be alleviated using medical cannabis either as a supportive or the only therapy for such conditions. Studies have shown that cannabis can relieve Alzheimer’s symptoms such as anxiety, poor sleep, depression, mood swings, aggression and hallucinations. Moreover, it may also help slow down the advancement of the disease.

Neuropathy

Neuropathy is a condition that affects the nerves, the brain and the spinal cord. Its most common symptoms include numbness, tingling, pain and fatigue. Research has shown that medicinal cannabis can help alleviate the symptoms of neuropathy and thus improve the patient’s quality of life.

It may be particularly useful for individuals who could not get relief using conventional neuropathy medication or are allergic to such medication.

IBD

Inflammatory bowel disease causes appetite loss, aside from other symptoms. Certain strains of cannabis are known to stimulate appetite, which is only one of the reasons why cannabis physicians are recommending it as a therapy for IBD.

It may also help to reduce pain and increase weight gain in people with IBD. High-quality edible cannabis, such as Kushly edibles, is a convenient and practical way to procure cannabis-infused products legally for use as a therapy or for recreation.

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD is a condition that affects the mental health of a person who has been through a traumatic experience such as a road accident, warfare or sexual or other assault. Common symptoms of PTSD include anxiety, depression, lack of sleep, and acute stress.

Certain strains of cannabis have been found to be effective in the treatment of PTSD by alleviating these symptoms and helping veterans and civilians with PTSD lead better lives.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

This condition affects the spinal cord and the brain simultaneously, resulting in loss of balance, tingling sensation, body pain, muscle spasms, and poor eyesight. Eminent researchers have found that medicinal marijuana with certain extracts of specific strength can help people with MS manage the symptoms by reducing the severity of those symptoms and providing relief from debilitating pain.
